Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are popular movie watching services abroad and now support Vietnamese users. Each has its own good points, bad points, different prices and especially the movie content is also very different. Below I will compare these 2 movie viewing services so that those who are still hesitant to register to watch Tet movies can also refer to it.

Netflix has a total of 3 service plans: $8 per month for Basic without HD, which only supports 1 user at a time; $10 per month Stardard, with HD and 2 users at a time; $12 per month for Premium plan, 4K support and 4 concurrent users. Netflix supports nearly all popular devices, including on iOS, Android, Apple TV, smartTV, Roku, game consoles like PS4 or Xbox.
Meanwhile Amazon has a package of 6 dollars per month (signup for the first 6 months is 3 dollars / month). Netflix’s layout is based on artificial intelligence, like “because Duc likes or has seen these movies, we thought he would like to see more of these.” Sometimes this one is also quite smart and gives pretty accurate suggestions. However, sometimes it is a bit confusing when we cannot browse movies according to certain requirements that we wanted at that time. The good thing is that everything is in view.
In return, Amazon Prime Video chooses a “more traditional” layout, so choosing a movie to watch is also a bit simpler. However, in return, there are new titles you have to rent or buy to watch. On the other hand, this layout is a bit “outdated”.
In terms of content streaming speed, both services are quite fast, without lag when watching. All allow downloading offline to watch when there is no network. Currently Amazon Prime Video only allows to save 2 videos or TV Series at the same time, and Netflix will let you download all the time as long as your device has enough space. Netflix is somewhat more favorable to Vietnamese brothers when there are now quite a few movies with Vietnamese subtitles.
Both services allow us to choose different qualities to suit specific situations. Regarding streaming, Netflix offers 4 options: Low (4 hours/GB), Medium (2 hours/GB), High (1 hour/GB) and Unlimited with an automatic selection feature depending on the network. Amazon offers 3 options: Best 5.8GB/hour video, Better 1.3GB/hour video and Good 0.6GB/hour video. Overall, both have good image quality, there is nothing to complain about in both.
Netflix has 2 download options: Standard with about 270MB for 1 hour of video or Higher with about 400MB for 1 hour of video. And Amazon Video gives 3 options: Good about 0.3GB/hour of video, Better about 0.6GB/hour of video and 0.9GB/hour of video.
Regarding 4K, both have their own store of 4K content and I have not found exact statistics yet. However, it also depends on your device to see 4K. For certain 4K smart TVs, both are supported. However, if playing with an external device, currently only Fire TV 4K can play 4K from Amazon Prime Video, while Netflix supports a wider variety, including Xbox One S, PS4 Pro or Nvidia Shield.
